Update: Man Sentenced to 2 Years for Cleveland Heights Robbery

Mario Bates pleaded guilty to the Huntington Bank robbery on Feb. 15

Updated at 10:40 a.m. March 9: The man who robbed the  in December was sentenced to two years on Tuesday. 

Mario Bates, 27, of Cleveland, pleaded guilty to second degree felony robbery on Feb. 15, and was sentenced Tuesday by Judge Kathleen Sutula, said Ryan Miday, spokesperson for the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office. He faced a maximum prison sentence of eight years.

Bates was indicted on charges of aggravated robbery and theft in December.

He pleaded not guilty in his arraignment on Dec. 14, according to court documents.

On Dec. 3, prosecutors said Bates went into the Cleveland Heights bank and hung out in the lobby for a short period of time. He approached the teller and passed a note instructing the teller to put cash in an envelope, to not push any panic buttons, and said he had a gun.

The teller gave him $1,230 in cash, and he folded the note over the money and left. On Dec. 5, Bates turned himself in to , according to prosecutors.
