Man Tries To Steal BB Gun, Ends Up Losing Phone & Sweatshirt

Thief is foiled when he tries to steal from Cleveland Heights Walmart

A man tried to steal a BB gun on Feb. 24 from the Walmart on Mayfield Road but he was foiled by a security guard.

Two men came into the store at about 3:30 p.m. and went back to the sporting goods section.

Then one of the men took out a knife, cut down a BB gun that was on display and hid it on him, according to Cleveland Heights Police.

The men walked out of the store but a security guard told the thief to stop.

The guard and the thief then scuffled, police said. During the fight, the thief lost his hooded sweatshirt and, along with it, the BB gun, his knife, cell phone, headphones and a bandanna, police said.

However, the thief and other man ran away before police arrived.

  • A similar scuffle between an accused shoplifter and a security guard happened on the morning of Feb. 23 at the CVS on Lee Road.

A man wearing a black shirt and pajama pants entered the pharmacy and tried to take items off the shelves.

When a guard tried to stop him, the two tussled, police said.

The man escaped. However, an officer recognized the man's description and went to the home of Dan Carter.

Carter, 29, of Cleveland Heights, was wearing the same black shirt and pajama pants when oficers arrived, police said.

Carter has been charged with a count of robbery.
