Cleveland Heights Police responded and ended up arresting a 36-year-old Cleveland Heights resident.

Editor's note: This story was updated at 10:30 a.m.

Cleveland Heights Police received a call about a disturbance at Winking Lizard Coventry at 10:15 p.m. Oct. 9.

A 36-year-old Cleveland Heights man was attempting to leave the restaurant with chicken wings. But the restaurant has a dine-in only policy for wings on Mondays and Tuesdays during "wing night." An employee and a customer told him he could not leave with his food, valued at $2.50. According to employees, he started to arguing and yelling at people around him.

The restaurant called police after he started screaming expletives and confronting customers, and he left. Police found him later in his car outside of the business with an open container. Police arrested him and charged him with disorderly conduct, and cited him for violating the open container law and driving under suspension.

Reports compiled from call logs and information from the Cleveland Heights Police Department.

I never heard of such a "No Take Out" policy.

It's their policy on wing night.

But the restaurant has a dine-in only policy for wings on Mondays and Tuesdays during "wing night." What does that mean - why would they have such a policy?

I imagine the policy prevents people from leaving with more wings than they could possibly eat.
Simon Weiner October 19, 2012 at 05:23 pm
Douglas- says he left with $2.50 worth of wings - not a whole lot - plus didn't say anything about all you can eat etc.
Simon Weiner October 19, 2012 at 05:28 pm
I think they want to entice you with cheap wings and then get you to buy other food as well - if you just ordered the cheap wings - and left - no profit - but it seems kind of silly to make a fuss over 5 wings - unless that's your thing!

Anyway - I get my wings at Shimon's on Taylor Road - that is what wings are all about!

They probably should have let him go once he made a scene. Sometimes it's just easier to get rid off problem customers than allow them to disrupt your business. www.firebrandcentral.com

Wiking Lizard, Quaker Steak and many other establishments have long held a similar policy, but only for wings and only on those nights. It's likely because the wings are steeply discounted.
Richard Hollis October 19, 2012 at 08:55 pm
That is probably why I don't eat wings.

Yeah, all kinds of places have a posted policy about their specials. Unless you stay for a beer or two, it doesn't work for the establishment.
The Lizard has the same policy for the personal pizza special on the same nights. Of course, it's all about the enforcement. Which differs by server, and by customer. If a drunk jerk comes in, acting like a fool, some servers will decide the policy *must* be obeyed. Others will be happy that he's leaving, and say nothing. Just like bus drivers and riders, it's all about how people handle themselves.

It only takes one drunk fool....to act as ignorant as he can in someones establishment. To spoil things for others.people like that need to be put in a big boat and shiped off to the deep blue sea.

I think the restaurant workers did the best that they could to insure that their policy was followed.no one can change the ignorance of another person. That person will more than likely behave that way under any condition..............its called plain old ignorance !!!!!

Agreed. New site is much too busy and/or confusing. Old format was easy to navigate and followRead More certain stories , a very cumbersome ordeal now. Thumbs down on the change.

I agree. I had even been tempted to start a blog just before this new and "improved"Read More layout. No longer interested in doing that - can't find anything on this patch.

That's odd. I was at the previous meeting, my first - on Global Warming, paid dues for the firstRead More time ever, wrote down my e-mail more than once, and still had no idea there was a meeting was last night.

Diane, for what it's worth, I believe FutureHeights has announced their intention to have a meetingRead More where the community can discuss ideas for Severance.

Along those lines, Diane, I thought an indoor greenhouse would be a good idea. Classes on how toRead More create gardens, grow food, store and preserve food would be an asset to the City.

Diane H. Dreizen & bachtobroadway42 - what interesting ideas! I'd love to see the whole messRead More raised and the area turned into a public park/recreation area with walking trails, bicycle paths, community gardens, etc. It seems the wind turbines could be in a place like that too. That's my dream, but we'll probably get some hideous redundant commercial development instead.
