Bonnie Caplan On Retiring From Council: '20 Years Is 20 Years'

Cleveland Heights Councilwoman Bonnie Caplan said she has truly enjoyed her time on city council but that she will not run for re-election in the Fall.

Caplan announced her decision on Monday.

"I've been on city council for 20 years and i have truly loved it," she said. "It's been like going to a university. I've learned about things I never even knew I wanted to know about."

Caplan said she has enjoyed learning about different things that she never imagined wanting to know about. For example, she said she now knows more about sewers than most people.

She said she has enjoyed interacting with residents and "attempting to make a difference" in their lives and the life of the community as a whole.

"But 20 years is 20 years," she said. "I am announcing it now so any residents who want to think about becoming a council person have times to get their acts together."
