Cleveland Heights Accepting Applications for Open Council Seat

Deadline for applications is 5 p.m. July 25.

The City of Cleveland Heights is offering and accepting applications for an open seat on City Council, as former Council Member Phyllis Evans she was in June. 

The applications are available on the city's website, at  or by calling the City Manager's office at 216-291-3737. Candidates must submit applications by 5 p.m. July 25. 

City Council will appoint someone to serve until Dec. 31, 2013. The person who takes over must run for election in November 2013 to complete Evans' term, which ends Dec. 31, 2015, said Mayor Ed Kelley.

Council will likely interview three to six candidates depending on how many people apply, Kelley said. The goal is to review applications and set interviews Aug. 6 so that council can appoint someone during a September meeting.

Former Council Member Mark Tumeo was the most recent councilperson to before his term ended. for the job and council . Council Councilman Jason Stein, who ran for election in November 2012 to complete the term and .

Anyone who applied for Tumeo's seat or at some other time in the past must reapply, Kelley said.
