Cleveland Heights Fire Chief To Retire

Fire Chief Kevin Mohr will retire at the end of August after serving on the Cleveland Heights department for more than 35 years.

Cleveland Heights Acting City Manager Susanna Niermann O'Neil announced at the June 18 regular council meeting that Fire Chief Kevin Mohr will retire at the end of August.

Mohr has served on the since 1976 as a firefighter, assistant chief and as chief, O'Neil said by email. He has been in his current role since 2002.

"The position for fire chief is filled through Civil Service. Candidates to the position are independently evaluated and judged by six fire chiefs from the Ohio Fire Chiefs Association Testing agency," O'Neil explained in an email. "The top candidate was Lt. William 'Dave' Freeman, who has been with the department since 1993, and during the past five years has run our highly successful paramedic program as the paramedic coordinator."

Freeman will be sworn in at a ceremony toward the end of August, she said.
