Cleveland Heights Increases Water Rates

The new rate is expected to increase the average bill by $8.87 cents per month, said Acting City Manager Susanna Niermann O'Neil.

Cleveland Heights residents will pay more for their monthly water bills.

The usage fee of $56.60 per metered cubic feet will increase to $70.04 per MCF. The new rate is expected to increase the average bill by $8.87 cents per month, said  Acting City Manager Susanna Niermann O'Neil.

The fee increase did not require city council vote and will be implemented immediately.

O'Neil said that Cleveland Heights is one of the few cities with its own water department, and the rate increase will allow the city to not only keep the high level of customer service "residents expect and deserve" but also pay for replacing the city's aging water lines, many of which are approaching 100 years old.

"This is a very difficult thing to do with our economy and the real financial needs that our residents have, but it is the responsble thing to do for the future of our community," O'Neil said.
