UPDATED: Hurricane Sandy Delays Cleveland Heights Leaf Collection

Cleveland Heights crews will focus on storm cleanup, new schedule will be posted soon.

Updated at 10:40 a.m. Oct. 29.

Cleveland Heights leaf collection was scheduled to begin today, Oct. 29, but it has been delayed due to the rain and wind from Hurricane Sandy hitting Northeast Ohio today and this week, said Acting City Manager Susanna Niermann O'Neil.

"Crews will be out cleaning out drains to prevent flooding, and also when the wind hits, we're going to have our forestry (crew) out checking tree limbs and taking care of that situation," she said. She said a new leaf collection schedule will be posted soon on the city's website.

The city will stop by each house twice during the collection period to gather loose leaves, said Council Member Bonita Caplan at the most recent meeting.

She reminded residents not to put leaves in the street where they can be a safety hazard or block drains — pile them on the tree lawn for pickup.
