Cleveland Heights Teachers Union President Running for Ohio House Seat

Democratic challenger Tom Schmida is running unopposed in the primary but will face incumbent Kristina Roegner in the November general election

Cleveland Heights Teachers Union president Tom Schmida is running unopposed in the March 6 Primary as he is the only Democratic candidate in the 37th Ohio House District.

He and incumbent Republican Kristina Roegner will wait to square off in the general election.

Schmida, of Twinsburg, will retire this school year as president of the Cleveland Heights Teachers Union, after serving for 20 years. He has been an educator for nearly 40 years.

Roegner, of Hudson, is seeking her second term in the state house.

Before that, she served on Hudson City Council from 205-2010.

Any Independent candidates have until March 5 — the day before the primary — to file to run for the post.

State representatives serve two-year terms.

The 37th District includes the cities of Twinsburg and Stow.
