MYXX, the former nightclub and bar in the Cedar-Fairmount business district, closed this fall following a slew of reported disturbances and a nuisance declaration by city council.

Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judge Daniel Gaul made the decision in September as a result of a complaint seeking a restraining order and injunction filed by Cleveland Heights Law Director John Gibbon.

According to council documents, the city manager and police chief have “reported that numerous criminal activities, including aggravated riot, assault, assault of a police officer, fights, underage consumption of alcohol, public intoxication, open containers of alcohol, excessively loud music, disorderly conduct and public urination have occurred and are habitually occurring at and around the business.”

At least 15 officers reported to MYXX in September to calm a brawl that ended with four arrests. In June, an officer was struck by a car following a melee outside the business. People nearby reported hearing gunshots that night, though police found no evidence to support that.

City council declared the business a nuisance less than two months later. Mayor Ed Kelley became so frustrated with trouble at MYXX this year that he started "counting the days" until its closing. The distrubances there also caused him to stress that "Cedar Fairmount is not downtown Detroit.”

The business had only been open since July 2011.
