Mike Gaynier Announces Candidacy for Cleveland Heights City Council

The Cleveland Heights resident was a finalist for Mark Tumeo's seat

Cleveland Heights resident Mike Gaynier has announced that he is running for a Cleveland Heights City Council seat.

Gaynier is board president of the , an organization he's helped lead for the past three years. The to prevent foreclosure and rehabilitate dilapidated properties, and provides home-repair assistance, among other services. 

Gaynier was one of who interviewed to take over . City Council to assume the role until December, and he will have to be re-elected in November to finish out the term, which ends in 2013.

Gaynier is also senior consultant for creativechange.biz, a consulting firm that provides clients with executive coaching, leadership development and other services. He is also a Red Cross Disaster Action Team Leader, and is on the Leadership Council of the .

Gaynier said as a council member, he'd like to focus on economic development, public safety, housing, strengthening schools, regional cooperation and support for the nonprofit community.

Cleveland Heights Patch when he was a finalist for Tumeo's seat. He said he's been actively involved in the Cleveland Heights community since he and his wife, Lisa, moved here four years ago. 

"Throughout my career and in my corporate life, in other organizations, I’ve gotten involved with and always have been involved with leadership positions. When I moved to Cleveland Heights, I fell in love with the place. I’d rather be involved in the process," he said. "I joked on my application that I may not be the smartest person in the room, but I am really good at finding that person. I’ve always been someone who can bring people together who can solve problems. I’m good at bringing people together to accomplish things that need to get done."
