Poll: Should the Mother of the Obese Cleveland Heights Boy Lose Custody of Her Child?

The Plain Dealer reported that Cuyahoga County case workers placed the woman's 8-year-old son, who weighs more than 200 pounds, in foster care

The Plain Dealer reported that a Cleveland Heights mother lost custody of her 8-year-old son because he is severely obese and has not made progress toward weight loss.

The newspaper reported that the third-grader weighs more than 200 pounds. The boy had lost some weight, but then gained it back quickly, so the county placed him in foster care last month.

The county says the mother isn't following recommendations from doctors to help her son shed pounds, but the mother insists she's tried the suggestions.

The county removed the boy from her home because it considered her inability to control her son's weight a form of medical neglect. A trial is set for next month.
