South Euclid Planning Commission to Vote on Oakwood Rezoning Thursday

Public hearing before the full council to be scheduled in the coming weeks

The South Euclid Planning Commission will vote Thursday on whether to recommend that the City Council rezone the former Oakwood Country Club property.

City Council will then hold a public hearing on the issue in the coming weeks and use opinions from those who speak there, as well as the Planning Commission’s recommendation, when they vote on the change.

The city , a development company known for building Legacy Village, Steelyard Commons and Avon Commons, among others, can build a mix of residential and commercial property, as well as parkland, called Oakwood Commons. The

The Planning Commission . The majority of people who spoke voiced their opposition to the zoning change, and many said that they don't want the national retailers that First Interstate Properties has said will be recruited. Cleveland Heights residents far outnumbered those who spoke at that public hearing, but the majority of South Euclid residents who spoke were also against the rezoning.

Thursday’s meeting will be at 7 p.m. inside South Euclid City Hall.
