Tumeo's Last Cleveland Heights City Council Meeting Tonight

Council member Mark Tumeo announced in March that he was moving to Florida to be a college dean

Cleveland Heights City Council member Mark Tumeo will work his last regular meeting tonight. 

Tumeo . He will be a dean of a College of Engineering.

However, that job is not at Cleveland State University, where he currently works. He will move south and lead the engineering college at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.

“I’ve never faced a more difficult and heart-wrenching situation. My life and my family are here. My husband has never lived anywhere but Northeast Ohio, and his family all lives here,” said Tumeo at the March 21 meeting. He has worked at CSU for 14 years and is a professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. “Of all the activities and accomplishments of my career, none have meant more to me than serving on the council of Cleveland Heights.”

Tumeo ran for council in 2005 and was sworn in January 2006. He served on the city’s Citizens Advisory Committee from 2000 to 2005.

City Council , and the last day to submit an application is May 17, the day he officially resigns.

Council members will appoint someone to take over his job until Dec. 31, and the position will be up for re-election Nov. 8. The person elected in the fall will serve the remaining two years of Tumeo's term, which ends Dec. 31, 2013.
