At the June 5 Cleveland Heights-University Heights School Board meeting, Heights High junior Janine Walker addressed the board in Thai.
That certainly got everyone’s attention.
She spoke for about 30 seconds, and then repeated what she said in English with more details.
Walker thanked the board and district staff for the opportunity to study abroad in Thailand and for their help in making the transition back to school easy.
“In Thailand, a lot of the other foreign exchange students were so worried about coming back to their countries and having to come back to their school and having to repeat a year, but my school district helped me make my year so easy to come back and not have to worry about this,” she said.
She also added that her friends were “jealous of all the opportunities I have at ,” noting the vocal music department, athletic teams and AP and honors classes.
