CHUH School Board Honors Retirees

20 teachers who will not return to the district next year received recognition at the Cleveland Heights-University Heights City School Board meeting

Twenty educators in the Cleveland Heights-University Heights City School District who are retiring and not returning to teach were recognized at the school board meeting Tuesday night at Wiley Middle School. 

The district had a reception for the teachers from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., and honored them during the regular board meeting by announcing their names and giving them plaques. 

Nine out of the 20 teachers recognized attended the meeting. this year and took the retirement incentive offered by the district, but those not announced Tuesday are returning next year on a limited contract and will receive a reduced salary.

Those who retired this year will receive two payments of $28,000 as part of the incentive, which was paid for by the Education Jobs Fund grant, traditionally used to save or create teaching jobs. 

Superintendent Doug Heuer had said that the district would save about $1.2 million if 30 teachers retired, which will be "be compounded every year, amounting to a multimillion-dollar savings to the district."
