Cleveland Heights High School principal Joseph Nohra Jr. has resigned and accepted a position as superintendent of the Struthers City School District in Struthers, OH.
The Struthers School Board hired Nohra at a special meeting Monday, according to an article in the Youngstown Vindicator.
Nohra was the leader of the Mosaic School of Fine and Performing Arts, one of four small schools at Heights High. He was hired in 2010 as the principal of P.R.I.D.E., which closed at the end of the 2010-2011 school year.
"I've had the pleasure of working with Mr. Nohra for a number of years," said Superintendent Douglas Heuer at the CH-UH Board meeting Tuesday night, when members approved Nohra's resignation. "I am very confident he will do an excellent job serving the Struthers schools and the students of those schools."
Nohra attended the meeting and spoke for about a minute.
"It's always been an honor to work there ... it's a very special place" Nohra said at the board meeting, noting the outstanding students in the district. "Certainly, many memories, and a very, very difficult decision for my family, for my children."
Jane Simeri, coordinator of educational services for the district, will serve as the interim principal. She'll transition into the role immediately but officially start in December 2012.
Simeri attended John Carroll University and earned a bachelor's degree in English and went to Cleveland Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University for her law degree. She is a licensed administrative principal for grades 7 through 12.
“Ms. Simeri has spent nearly 20 years as a teacher at our high school and two years coordinating our gifted program for students interested in the arts,” Heuer said in a press release. “Her decades of experience in the classroom as a teacher and her passion for education and the arts will serve our students well.”
