Cleveland Heights Lay Facilities Committee to Choose Three Options for Schools

The Cleveland Heights-University Heights City Schools' Lay Facilities Committee hopes to narrow down possibilities for the district restructuring at tonight's meeting.

The committee has spent months studying the district's configuration and discussing ways to restructure it — by closing buildings, moving schools and consolidating schools — to make it sustainable.

The committee surveyed community members and stakeholders last month about their priorities for the school district and options for the restructure.

Tonight the committee will send three options to the district's architecture and construction consultants for cost estimates, which they will get back later this month.

From those three, the committee is tasked with recommending a final option to the Board of Education, who will vote on whether to adopt it. The plan will require a bond issue on the November 2013 ballot, so a decision must be made by early summer.
