Heights High Gospel Choir Finalist in Cleveland Glee

Fans can vote for the group starting today

The Cleveland Heights High Gospel Choir is one of nine finalists in the Fox 8 Cleveland Glee Contest, and are now competing to win $5,000. 

The group kicked off the competition, sponsored by Ford, at the I-X Center on Feb. 27 as the first to perform, said . They were chosen to advance to the next round, and starting today, people can visit www.driveoneohio.com to watch the performance and vote for the choir. 

“We were excited," Dixon said. "You never know what judges are looking for, but we felt pretty good about the performance, the range and the variety of what we did in comparison to the other groups."

According to the school district's website, if the choir wins, Dixon said she will use the money to purchase new robes

 in the Glee competition, but were not finalists.

From Friday, March 4

The 45-member gospel choir also performs tonight at 7 p.m. at the Auditorium as part of Gospel Fest.

Eight groups are part of the show this year, which is more than in years past, Dixon said. Choirs from Brush, Twinsburg and Shaker Heights high schools and colleges such as Kent State and Cleveland State University will take the stage. Tickets are $3 at the door.
