New Principal Hired At Canterbury Elementary School

Erica Wigton is the new principal at Canterbury Elementary School.

Canterbury Elementary School has a new principal.

The Cleveland Heights - University Heights Board of Education approved the hiring of Erica Wigton as the school's new principal on Tuesday. Wigton was hired with the participation of Canterbury parents, district officials said.

Wigton takes over for Stacy Stuhldreher, who accepted a position as Principal of Pleasant Valley in the Parma School District.

"Dr. Wigton is going to be a great asset to the Canterbury community and to this District," said Superintendent Nylajean McDaniel. "She is a proven leader who has demonstrated the ability to both manage school operations effectively on a day-to-day basis while remaining a classroom educator at heart with a commitment to enhancing student learning experiences."

Wigton worked in the Shaker Heights School District since 2002, most recently as the Assistant Principal of Woodbury Elementary.

Wigton has a degree from Gettysburg College, a masters in Education Administration from John Carroll and her Doctorate in Urban Education from Cleveland State University. 

Canterbury parents took part in the process of finding a new school leader.  First they answerined a survey that asked what qualities they wanted to see in a new Principal.  In addition, several parents took part in the second round of candidate interviews.
