New Principal Hired At Monticello Middle School

The Cleveland Heights-University Heights City School District has hired Deborah D. Moore as the new principal of Monticello Middle School.

Moore replaces Brian Sharosky, who resigned in June to take a job with Brunswick School District. Moore was formerly approved at last week's school board meeting.

Moore has been principal at Shaw High School since 2010. Prior to that she was principal of Cleveland’s Collinwood High School from 2005 to 2010, Alexander Hamilton Middle School from 2003 to 2005 and Glenville High School Freshman Academy to 2000 to 2003.

District officials said Moore has worked in her previous to open lines of communication among staff, students and parents. She has also made it a priority to establish procedures for maintaining a safe and secure learning environment at both the middle and high school level. Among her experiences are improvements to student proficiency and graduation test scores. 

"I have been a change agent for schools struggling with academic achievement, behavioral standards, and proper culture," Moore said.

CH-UH Superintendent Nylajean McDaniel said Moore "has a great working knowledge of how to manage students, keep them safe and develop a philosophy of education that fosters student drive, teacher excellence, and a community of informed and active parents."  

She has the foresight to prepare Monticello Middle School students for high school and beyond, given her successive middle to high school experience," McDaniel added. "And, based on her track record, she understands what it takes to improve test scores so that students can advance and graduate with competency."

With regard to instruction, Moore said: "I intend to create a data-driven environment so as to promote academic excellence for all."  She also believes in moving students forward in a technology era, and acknowledges the importance technological skills will have in students’ academic and professional futures, district officials said.

Also on her top list of priorities is the school budget, where she intends to allocate funds to the most important academic initiatives, from a fiscally responsible perspective.  

Moore’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications from Ohio State University, a Masters in Special Education from Kent State University, and a Masters in Administration/Supervision from John Carroll University.
