Preschool Classroom to Open at Noble Elementary

The CHUH School District moved one classroom from Gearity Professional Development School to Noble to better serve students at both the North and South end of the district

The Cleveland Heights-University Heights City School District is moving a half-day preschool classroom to and is changing the hours of the program.

The preschool program, which can serve up to 158 students in both half-day and full-day classrooms, was housed at this past year. Now one classroom, which has room for 36 students split up in two half-day sessions, will be available at Noble, and it's almost full.

“By moving a half-day classroom to Noble, we are making it more accessible to those families who are unable or less likely to travel across town to Gearity,” said Beverly Metzger, program specialist for early childhood education for the district, by email.

There are three instructors for each session, and both students with special needs and those without will share classrooms.

Both preschools have small-group orientations Sept. 1, Sept. 2 and and Sept. 6, and the first day for students is Sept. 7. The program ends in May.

The preschool half-day hours have also changed. School used to be in session five days a week for 2.5 hours each day. Students will now meet Tuesday through Friday for three hours — the morning program is from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and the afternoon program is from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

“Many of the content standards are addressed through ‘inquiry’ using the project approach. Through facilitation and questioning, students choose topics to explore and investigate, which adds meaning and depth to their learning,” Metzger said by email, adding that snacks are also provided.

Tuition is $317 per month for the half-day sessions, and siblings can attend for $273 per month. Full-day programs are $720 per month. Free and reduced tuition is offered for families who qualify, and students who are eligible for special education attend for free.

Parents interested in enrolling their students can stop by Gearity’s main office, as registration and billing will still be handled there, and call 216-371-7356 for questions. Summer office hours are 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
