Roxboro Schools Welcomes Chinese Students Today

Roxboro Elementary and Middle schools will be visited by students and officials from their sister school, the Jin Yuan School from Shanghai, China, on Thursday.

Roxboro Elementary and Middle schools will be visited by students and officials from their sister school, the Jin Yuan School from Shanghai, China, on Thursday.

There will be 10 students, five teachers, and one principal from Shanghai on the visit.  There will also be four honored guests from Cleveland State University’s Confucius Institute; Dr. Haigang Zhou, director, Professor Liú Wénzhèng,' associate director, and Dr. Lih-Ching Chen Wang, professor of educational technology and founding director of the Confucius Institute.

Teachers and administrators from CH-UH will greet guests from Shanghai and CSU at a breakfast, and afterwards students from Roxboro Elementary and Middle school will perform for the guests at an assembly. Guests from Shanghai will perform for Roxboro students through song, dance, speeches, and then the sister schools will exchange gifts. Later, guests will receive a tour of Roxboro Elementary and Roxboro Middle Schools.

"CH-UH officials traveled twice to China to interact with our sister school, and we’ve had three years of teleconferencing,"said Melissa Garcar, International Baccalaureate Coordinator for Roxboro Elementary and Middle Schools. "We are pleased to say, 'Ni Hao' (hello) to our friends. As an IB school, our students will have the opportunity to learn to speak Mandarin Chinese and interact with students from another culture."
