Video: Heights Youth Club Receives School Supplies, Money for Literacy Programs

The University of Phoenix and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Cleveland sponsored a school kickoff event for CHUH students at the Heights Youth Club

The University of Phoenix donated more than 250 school supplies to students at the  Wednesday to help them prepare for the .

The University of Phoenix, Cleveland and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland organized a back-to-school kickoff event Wednesday afternoon at the club on Washington Boulevard and Lee Road. Students received supplies, the University of Phoenix presented a $2,000 check to the Boys & Girls Clubs and speakers talked to students about bullying.

Janette Ruffin-Rusher, author of Tyler’s Pain, spoke about her daughter’s formidable experience with bullying, and Cleveland Heights resident and owner of Today’s Cut & Style, Lamont Robinson, took questions from students about what they can do if they are taunted or hurt.

The Heights Youth Club and Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland received $2,000 from University of Phoenix as part of a $50,000 donation to Boys & Girls Clubs across the Midwest. The money will support literacy projects at the Heights and other clubs.
