Heights Bicycle Coalition Starts Group Rides

FreeWheelin' Wednesdays begins Aug. 1, and the first ride will take cyclists through paths around the Shaker Lakes.

The Heights Bicycle Coalition is organizing group bike rides on Wednesdays Aug. 1 through Sept. 26.

Cyclists will ride together for about 10 to 15 miles starting at 6:30 p.m. Many routes are still to be determined, but this Wednesday, riders will take paths through Shaker Lakes and the . Other rides include routes in and University Circle.

The group will meet at the Coventry P.E.A.C.E. Park each Wednesday, and helmets are required. The park is located near the former Coventry School at the intersection of Euclid Heights, Washington and Coventry.

  • Aug. 1 – Shaker Lakes – Ride on paths and bike lanes, visit playgrounds, waterfalls and the Shaker Lakes Nature Center. Ride Leader: Sarah O’Keefe
  • Aug. 8 – TBD
  • Aug. 15 – TBD
  • Aug. 22 – Wade Oval Wednesdays in University Circle, Latin, Salsa, Rumba, Flamenco, and Merengue music with Son Gitano. Ride Leader: Deidre McPherson
  • Aug. – Forest Hill Park and the historic Rockefeller homes and history. Ride Leader: Joy Henderson
  • Sept. 5 – TBD
  • Sept. 12 – The Coburn Bike Coop at John Carroll University. Tour the Coop and find out what JCU students are doing to promote cycling and honor Miles Coburn. Ride Leader: Chris Sheil and Coburn Coop members
  • Sept. 19 –  TBD
  • Sept. 26 – TBD
