Illegal Booms: Police Receive Dozens Of Fireworks Complaints During Holiday Weekend

Between July 3 and July 8, the Cleveland Heights Police received more than 40 fireworks complaints from residents.

Cleveland Heights doesn't host a fireworks show, but some resident tried to get away with shows of their own during the long Fourth of July weekend.

Between July 3 and July 8, the Cleveland Heights Police received more than 40 fireworks complaints from residents, according to police logs.

One man, a Desota Avenue resident, was caught in the act on July 4 and cited for setting off fireworks. A handful of other residents were given warnings, the logs show.

Police received multiple reports of teenagers setting off fireworks in the street or in public parks, but officers could not substantiate the reports.

According to Cleveland Heights ordinances, it is illegal to sell fireworks in the city and to "discharge, ignite, or explode any fireworks.

Fireworks-display permits for fairs or other celebrations may be obtained from the Fire Chief and Police Chief.
