Residents React To Cain Park Splash Pad Rules: What Do You Think?

Some parents think the rules at the new Cain Park Splash Pad are too restrictive, others think they are just right. What do you think?

The city of Cleveland Heights released the rules and restrictions for the new Cain Park Splash Pad on Monday.

According to the rules, the pad is only for children beneath 48-inches tall and all children must be accompanied by an adult with a Cleveland Heights recreation ID. An adult can have no more than three children with them. Only city residents can obtain an ID, which costs $5. READ THE FULL RULES HERE.

The splash pad is set to open at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 21.

The rules have promoted disagreements and discussions online, both on our article about the rules and Cleveland Heights Patch's Facebook page and elsewhere in social media.

The bottom line: Many parents the splash pad rules too restrictive.

"The city is discouraging people from going to the park," said Sara Zwergel-Forsythe on the Cleveland Heights Patch Facebook Page. "I too will not be able to go b/c my 7 year old is "too tall". My 3 year old will not get to go b/c of her brother. Please reconsider the rules Cleveland Heights. There are always so many rules that limit access to things. I'd like to support my city, but I get more annoyed every time rules are made that disclude so many people. I have never been to a splash park with a height requirement. I guess I'll continue to go to Quarry or Brainard park. Include UH people and make an age limit, like 12. This park is for 2-5 (maybe 6) year olds. What a waste of money."

Others think the rules are just right.

"I kind of agree with it, myself," wrote Beth Hartmann McClellan on Facebook. "If you allowed heights over 48", you'd have big kids getting too rowdy and it would be dangerous for little kids. I think if they're gonna make it free, I see no problem with having to have a Cleve Hts Rec ID."

We want to know what YOU think about the rules. Are they just right? Or too restrictive. Tell us in the comments!
