Home Repair Resource Center- Senior Moments
What is one of the best Aging-In-Place tools for seniors that I've seen recently? You will be suprised.
I attended the "Aging In Place" workshop, hosted by the Cuyahoga County Department on Aging. The keynote speaker Dr. Applebaum. was very informative and his dedication to helping seniors stay safely in their homes is matched only by ours, here at HRRC. I want to share what I found to be the most most interesting aging in place concept of the event.
First, the problem: I write a blog dedicated to not only HRRC issues but also senior issues. Seniors are increasingly cut off from modern, mainstream information and communication by a technology barrier. Computers are often way to involved and complicated for many seinors' needs. As such, many don't ever see my blog or more importantly use email, skype or even read for pleasure.
The solution, tablet computers like the IPad or Kindle Fire. While there is software that will mask over all but the desired applications available in your PC, thats like taping over all but the chanel and volume buttons on the remote. The intuitive simplicity of the tablet gives seniors all that they need without the complications of a full function PC. This tool brings the world to a senior and all it takes is one finger. Please, think about how one of these marvelous devises can enhance an older loved ones life.

I would love to hear from seniors and their loved ones on the possibility of HRRC sponsoring a class on tablet use because of all of the tablets that our seniors receive this holiday season.
