The Cleveland Heights Fire Department is headquartered in city hall and has stations on Cedar and Mayfield roads. The 73-member professional department receives about 5,500 calls a year, and consists of a fire chief, assistant fire chief, fire inspector, 69 firefighters and an administrative assistant. Each station has two EMS units, a ladder and an engine. Station 1 handles dispatches for Cleveland Heights, Shaker Heights and University Heights, and the cities have agreed to send equipment to areas closest to its departments, even if the emergencies are outside of its city boundaries.
