PHOTOS: Shaker Heights Native Stops Home During Her 'Big Ride'

Elizabeth Schreiber and a group of 18 other cyclists are riding from Seattle to Washington, DC to raise money for the American Lung Association.

Elizabeth Schreiber has traveled 2,838 miles across the country so far — on her bike. And she has about 5,000 more to go. The Shaker Heights native is participating in The Big Ride, a 3,300-mile, 49-day journey across the country that started June 18 in Seattle and ends in Washington, DC. Schreiber isn't just pushing those pedals for fun. She raised $6,656, more than her goal of $6,500, for the American Lung Association. Four thousand goes directly to the organization, and the rest helps pay for meals, camping and support services during the trip, which is meant to raise awareness of the organization and its efforts to prevent and treat lung disease. We've added some great new bloggers to Cleveland Heights Patch, and we don't want you to miss one. That's why we are going to feature a blog occasionally to showcase some of the contributions people have made to the site. Elizabeth Schreiber is about to embark on a 3,000 mile bike ride this summer to raise money for the American Lung Association. Appropriately called "The Big Ride," she's traveling from Seattle to Washington D.C. on two wheels. And she shared what inspired her to participate. "This is not about me. It is about something much greater, a cause to help those people who suffer from lung complications and might not have the same opportunities that I am gifted with," she wrote.
