Abby Botnick and Richard Louis Ortmeyer will take their new roles in 2012
The Cleveland Heights-University Heights Public Library announced today its two new board members. Abby Botnick and Richard Louis Ortmeyer will begin their terms in January 2012. The CH-UH School Board interviewed ten candidates at its meeting Dec. 6 and selected Botnick and Ortmeyer that evening. Ohio law requires that the local school board be the tax authority for a community’s public library, so the school board chooses the library trustees. They are taking over for outgoing Board President Audrey Cole, who retires at the end of the year, and Jason Stein, who resigned in June to take over former Cleveland Heights City Councilman Mark Tumeo's role on council. Cleveland Heights-University Heights Public Library Board of Trustees President Audrey Cole announced she was leaving her role at the Oct. 17 trustees meeting. Her term will end December 2011. Jason Stein also resigned in June 2011 after he was appointed to fill former Councilman Mark Tumeo's seat, so the library is seeking applicants for two board positions. One position will be a five-year term and the other will be a seven-year term, and any Cleveland Heights or University Heights resident is eligible to apply, according to a press release from the library. The library, once one of my favorite places, is consistently an unpleasant experience. What ever happened to the idea of a library being a QUIET place to read and study. I see staff ignoring loud talking, kids running and a general free for all atmosphere. The old library had it all over this new, cold, unruly one.   more ›
