CH-UH Lay Facilities Committee Appoints Chairperson, Discusses Charge

Patrick Mullen, executive director of Reaching Heights, will chair the 25-person committee tasked with determining what aspects of the facilities master plan the community will support.

The 25-member Cleveland Heights-University Heights lay facilities committee appointed a chairperson and determined its goals at its first meeting Wednesday night at Cleveland Heights High School. The group appointed Patrick Mullen, executive director of Reaching Heights, to chair the committee created by the CH-UH School Board to examine the facilities master plan and determine what aspects of the plan the community would support. "We got to a point where the board decided if they put (the facilities master plan bond issue) on the ballot this year, it probably wouldn’t have passed," Mullen said. "Broadly, our task is to come up with recommendations on a plan that is instructionally sound and fiscally responsible and can enjoy broad …

Either go with a traditional model of ~5 elementary schools (K-5), 2 middle schools, and 1 high school, or go with Plan C but make Gearity or Wiley a primary school (PK-3) location and instead use Canterbury as an intermediate grade (4-8) site. Oh, and please strongly consider re-opening an alternative school similar to what Taylor Academy was a decade go, but make it from grades 7-10. This will …   more ›

John, this little blip from the newer article demonstrates how I think differently: "The 25-member committee (two members will rotate),..." That tells me that at least two members think their primary responsibility to the project is to attend meetings. And that the leadership feels that way as well. I have no interest in such groups.   more ›

The District allocated almost 2MM for the three pilots, about half of this year's money available for facilities. You report the work @ Heights cost almost 1MM. The 750K grant, does that money "free up" 750K for other work in the District or was it added to the 994K at Heights bringing the total cost @ Heights to 1.6MM?   more ›
