Cleveland Heights is home to the "Best Indie Theater."
There's something very hot in Cleveland Heights. The winners of the Cleveland Hot List were announced Thursday and the Cedar Lee Theatre topped the list of "Best Indie Theaters." The Cedar Lee beat out seven other theaters to take the top spot for 2013. It won the award in 2011 and was a runner up in 2010. Some voters shared their thoughts on why the theatre is No. 1. "Nowhere else can you see such a selection of films," said one voter. Another added, "fun, older theater closer to home...always reminding us how wide the world of cinema really is."

Grab your plastic spoons and get ready for a unique experience.
This weekend, try out a Rocky Horror-like cult classic at the Cedar Lee Theatre. Tommy Wiseau's 2003 film The Room plays this Saturday at midnight, and it's worth staying up for. Never seen it? Don't worry — many in the audience attend every month, and they're friendly, if unforgiving of the movie's terrible writing, acting and directing. The monthly regular feature draws a nice crowd (Yes, the movie is awful! That's the point!) armed with plastic spoons, and often dressed like the movie's terribly portrayed characters. Don't worry about the quality of the film — the entertainment comes from the audience, many of who have memorized every line and will talk through the whole thing — but who will be saying things that are actually funny, and…

In the wake of the shooting tragedy in Colorado, the local movie chain says it will take "precautions to help address our patron's safety."
Cleveland Cinemas says it will "take precautions" in the wake of the tragic and horrifying shooting at a Colorado movie theater that has claimed the lives of at least 12 people and injured some 50 others. A gunman opened fire during the midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises in a suburban Denver theater, and police have arrested the suspect, James Holmes, a 24-year-old graduate student at the University of Colorado, according to the Huffington Post. Cleveland Cinemas released this statement today: Cleveland Cinemas wants to extend its sympathies to the victims in the incident at the Century Theatre in Colorado and to their families. Our thoughts are with them as they begin the difficult healing process. The safety and security of our …

"We should not be afraid to hold parents, teachers and school administrators accountable," a Cleveland Heights parent wrote in The Plain Dealer. What do you think?
Cleveland Heights resident Debbie Ungemach wrote a column that appeared on The Plain Dealer's website Saturday urging parents, teachers, administrators, teens and more to see Bully, a documentary about bullying from the perspective of five families from around the country. Ungemach saw the film at Cedar Lee Theatre, and was concerned that only about 50 people were there. "This is a film that every mature preteen, teenager, parent, teacher and administrator should see. And not just 'see' but watch, digest, get angry and talk about with everyone they know. I spent most of the movie alternating between teary-eyed, upset, disgusted and appalled," she wrote. "... We should not be afraid to hold parents, teachers and school administrators …

Cedar Lee Theatre and Coventry Village honored in the magazine's "Best of Cleveland" feature
Cedar Lee Theatre and Coventry Village received nods in Scene Magazine's "Best of Cleveland 2012" feature. Cedar Lee Theatre was crowned "best movie theatre" and Coventry Village was named "best reason to visit the east side." "Still a haven for offbeat merchants and quirky shops, (Coventry) has cultivated a fantastic blend of homegrown and outside enterprises in recent years," Scene wrote. "The result is a district teeming with energy day and night, drawing crowds that span the circle of life." And the Cedar Lee, "is often the only place in town where you can see the year's best indie movies." To read the full article and see the list of winners, click here.

Nominate Cleveland Heights by submitting a story explaining why it's the nation's most interesting community
One of the nation's most widely read magazines is asking readers to submit their towns for a contest naming the most interesting locale in America. Reader's Digest is asking residents in communities across the country to nominate their town for the magazine's "America's Most Interesting Town" contest. Cleveland Heights, we got this. It works like this: to nominate Cleveland Heights, a resident would write a story — or a letter to-the-editor style piece — explaining why they think Cleveland Heights is the most interesting town in America. Then, you submit your letter to Reader's Digest's phase two of it's "We Hear You America" campaign. The winner will get their town on the cover of an upcoming Reader's Digest issue and $1,000. Winners are …
