Cleveland Heights Police Make 70 Arrests in 97 Robberies

Chief Jeffrey Robertson said though robberies are up this year from this time in 2011, police have made arrests in most.

At this time last year, 95 robberies were reported in Cleveland Heights. Robbery incidents reported jumped from 68 offenses in 2010 to 109 in 2011. And so far in 2012, 97 robberies have been reported. But Police Chief Jeffrey Robertson said though the stats are slightly higher this year compared to this time last year, police have made 70 arrests — 43 adults and 27 kids. And the others are still under investigation. "We’ve cleared 51 of those (robberies) with arrests," Robertson said. "Robbery" can mean many different things, Robertson said. When a shoplifter uses physical force to try to flee, that's a robbery. When a cell phone is stolen from a person's hands, that's also a robbery. Attempted robberies are counted, too. So crime is up.... test scores down in CH.....how I wish it was the other way around. If the middle school kids weren't carrying those IPads around, our crime rate might be at the 2011 levels. God Bless the CH police department! They keep us all safe.   more ›

Violent Crime, Property Crime in Cleveland Heights Increased From 2009 to 2011

The FBI released crime statistics from 2011 last month. We compared the numbers to information from 2009 to 2010, which show the number of reported offenses in most crime categories have increased in Cleveland Heights.

The rates of both violent crime and property crime reported in Cleveland Heights has increased since 2009, according to statistics released by the FBI last month. Police departments across the country report the number of nine kinds of criminal offenses to the FBI every year, and the FBI compiles the data. Reporting is voluntary. Violent crime — which includes murder, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault — has increased in Cleveland Heights from 84 offenses in 2009 to 143 in 2011. Violent crime had dropped in 2010 to 73 offenses.  Robbery jumped from 68 offenses in 2010 to 109 in 2011. Aggravated assault went from 4 offenses in 2010 to 33 in 2011. Even when I was a little girl and we would be biking over to Cumberland to swim, my grand mother prohibited us from riding down Altamont since it had a seedy reputation even then. We had to go via Beechwood or Euclid Heights. Cleveland Heights needs to provide juveniles with civility lessons, and when they do transgress, make them do reparations.
