Four police officers have been killed or died on duty since 1920.
Since 1920, Cleveland Heights Police Department has lost four police officers in the line of duty. In honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day, Patch is highlighting those men who made the ultimate sacrifice to keep their city safe. Captain Edward Bertram Connolly End of watch: Sept. 2, 1920 Captain Connolly, 42, succumbed to gunshot wounds received during a shootout between officers and a burglar near a drug store on Cedar Road at 3 a.m. on Sept. 2, 1920. Captain Connolly and other officers had been alerted to the burglary by another patrolman who had called for backup. While Captain Connolly was standing in an alley another officer opened fire on him thinking he was the burglar. Captain Connolly was taken to a local hospital where he died …

Cleveland Heights Police incidents April 18 to 21

Couple robbed on Berkeley April 18, 11:34 p.m. — A couple reported that three men had approached them on the 3300 block of Berkeley Road and one began strangling the man until he blacked out. The woman screamed for help, and the suspect went throught that man's pockets, took his cash and fled toward Cain Park. Shots fired after dance at Civic April 19, 11:44 p.m. — Shots were fired as a dance was letting out at the Civic Conference and Event Center on the 3100 block of Mayfield Road. Burglaries and break-ins in the city reported between Feb. 27 and March 5
The Cleveland Heights Police Department are investigating burglaries and break-ins that have occurred in the city. If anyone has information regarding any crime listed in this article, he or she is encouraged to contact the police department at 216-321-1234. The first occurred on Feb. 28 in the 2200 block, the thief (or thieves) entered through an unlocked door and stole cash from inside. A neighbor said they saw an unfamiliar 6-foot white man with a heavy winter coat and hat in the area at about the same time as the crime. Then, on March 4, a burglar broke into the basement of a home on the 2300 block and stole a laptop computer.

The girl is accused of showing others nude photos of a 16-year-old girl
A 17-year-old girl is accused of showing around nude photos of another girl that she had on her cell phone on March 1 at Lutheran High School East. The first girl, who is from Warrensville Heights, was arrested and charged with a count of pandering obscenity involving a minor, according to Cleveland Heights Police Department. If the suspect were an adult, the charge would be a felony. However, at this time, the girl is being charged in juvenile court. Authorities have not released how the photos came to be on the phone.

Burglaries and break-ins in the city reported between Feb. 21 and 26
The Cleveland Heights Police Department are investigating burglaries and break-ins that have occurred in the city. If anyone has information regarding any crime listed in this article, he or she is encouraged to contact the police department at 216-321-1234. Somebody climbed onto a small roof structure and broke into one of the home's second-floor windows. The burglar used another window to exit. The only thing the homeowner found missing was a jar of change. They stole copper piping and a jewelry box. They also left behind two bags of comic books, according to police. A group of five people -- three men and two women -- took his jacket, wallet and cell phone
Cleveland Heights Police are investigating a robbery that happened at about 5 p.m. Feb. 24 on Noble Road. A 19-year-old man was walking home when he was attacked by a group of five people -- three men and two women -- according to police. One of the robbers pointed a handgun at the man and all five attacked him until he bled from from his nose, mouth and ears. The group took his jacket, wallet and cell phone before fleeing. The man walked the remaining distance home and a family member called 911. Cleveland Heights paramedics took him to Hillcrest Hospital so his injuries could be treated. Thief is foiled when he tries to steal from Cleveland Heights Walmart
A man tried to steal a BB gun on Feb. 24 from the Walmart on Mayfield Road but he was foiled by a security guard. Two men came into the store at about 3:30 p.m. and went back to the sporting goods section. Then one of the men took out a knife, cut down a BB gun that was on display and hid it on him, according to Cleveland Heights Police. The men walked out of the store but a security guard told the thief to stop. The guard and the thief then scuffled, police said. During the fight, the thief lost his hooded sweatshirt and, along with it, the BB gun, his knife, cell phone, headphones and a bandanna, police said. Police investigating armed robbery at CVS Feb. 18, 11:35 a.m. -- Cleveland Heights Police are trying to locate a man who used a gun to rob the CVS drug store in the 3800 block of Monticello Boulevard. The 65-year-old woman was helping him with a science project at the time, according to police
A 14-year-old boy from Cleveland Heights is accused of kidnapping, stabbing and robbing his neighbor when she tried to help him with his school work Sunday afternoon. The boy was over at the neighbor's house on Medford Road and working on a science project when the incident occurred. He used one of her kitchen knives to hold her hostage, stabbing her twice in the stomach and slashing her across the cheek, Cleveland Heights Police Sgt. Ernest Williams said. Then the boy took some of her jewelry and drove away in blue Volvo. The woman then called the boy's parents who, in turn, called 911. Cleveland Heights Police are investigating a rape that happened in the early morning hours of Monday in the 1800 block of Coventry Road. A 24-year-old woman was at Burgers-N-Beer Sunday night. Later, she went outside behind the building so she could smoke a cigarette. While outside, a man attacked and raped her, she reported. She told the police that the rapist was a black man with short cropped hair, as well as facial hair, and that he wore a black-and-white striped sweater. The woman was taken to Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield for medical treatment. No suspect has been arrested as of yet.
