Everything you need to know about the boys basketball teams at Cleveland Heights, Shaker Heights and Beachwood.
Bedford came into Heights High with the intention of taking early control of the Lake Erie League race. Cleveland Heights, however, put down the Bearcats by opening the fourth quarter with a 19-3 run over the first 4:10 and securing a 78-50 victory. Combined with a 66-46 win over Maple Heights on Saturday, Cleveland Heights remains perfect in the LEL (3-0) and improved to 4-1 overall. “I think our strength is not in an individual player,” Tigers coach Andy Suttell said. “Our strength is the number of guys we can bring at you and the number of different looks we can bring at you. "I really felt it came together tonight against a very quality opponent and I though we wore them down.” The Tigers did a great job keeping Bedford’s top players…

Everything you need to know about the boys basketball teams at Cleveland Heights, Shaker Heights and Beachwood.
Editor's note: This story was updated at 9:55 a.m. Cleveland Heights started off Lake Erie League play on the right foot with a 66-59 victory over rival Euclid, improving to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the LEL. But it was not without struggles, the Tigers lost a total of five points in the second half — one right out of halftime and four more midway through the fourth quarter — due to a bookkeeping error. The Panthers eventually took a lead in the fourth. “It took us for a loop and our guy had to play through that,” Cleveland Heights coach Andy Suttell said. “I wasn’t pleased we ultimately gave up the lead, but I’m glad we fought through some of that adversity and made some big plays down the stretch.” Delaunte Davis came up with a big 3-…

Everything you need to know about the boys basketball teams at Cleveland Heights, Shaker Heights and Beachwood.
For a young team, even as talented as Cleveland Heights, drawing St. Edward to open the season on Nov. 30 was a daunting task. But the Tigers held their own in a 69-63 loss — even taking a 14-point lead with 3:32 left in the third. St. Edward, however, closed out the third with a 14-4 run and then outscored Cleveland Heights 21-11 in the fourth. “That’s an experienced team we were playing, who went to the Final Four with three starters back,” Tigers coach Andy Suttell said. “They knew how to respond down the stretch and we’re a team that’s kind of figuring that stuff out right now. We’re disappointed because it was a game that we controlled over three quarters. “In saying that, a close loss to Ed’s at their place, there’s a lot of …

Everything you need to know about boys basketball at Cleveland Heights, Beachwood and Shaker Heights.
The Cleveland Heights Tigers look to reload after a 17-5 season ended in the district semifinals with a 43-33 loss to Garfield Heights. Cleveland Heights will miss the services of Tyree Gaiter — who is averaging 12.5 points at Notre Dame College — and Najeeb Johnson — who attended UW Platteville, a strong Division III program. “We lost a lot of talent,” coach Andy Suttell said. “But at the same time we’re still a very deep basketball team. I think we have some guys who are really going to have some breakout years.” The Tigers two returning starters, who will likely take on more responsibility, are Marcus Bagley and Antonio Harper. Bagley, 6-foot-0 junior, was the second leading scorer averaging 13 points a game. Harper, a 6-7 senior, led …
