New Heights Arts Show Opens Tonight

Heights Arts will host an opening reception tonight for the new David Mull + Martha Cliffel show

Editor's Note: This story was updated at 8:45 a.m. For the next five weeks, Heights Arts will display the work of two artists with no shortage of impressive work despite having no formal training. The David Mull and Martha Cliffel show kicks off tonight with a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Heights Arts Gallery on Lee Road. The organization describes the work of both artists as rich with "obsessive detail." "Mull’s detailed, imaginative ink and graphite drawings are made on found paper, rocks, and other objects," according to the Heights Arts website. Heights Artist Featured at Downtown Gallery Through Jan. 19

If Cleveland Heights residents take a trip to the William Busta Gallery in the next month, they'll find the reflective artwork of one of their neighbors. The gallery, at 2731 Prospect Ave., will host Thomas Frontini's "Eremite: Views and Visitors" exhibit through Jan. 19. "Eremite" consists of paintings that mostly feature animals and landscape scenes in order to depict moments of meditation and contemplation. Frontini's résumé includes exhibits at the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland and galleries in Los Angeles, New York, Toronto and more, dating back to the early '90s. Heights Arts Holiday Store Offers Locally Made Gift Options

Open through Dec. 30, Heights Arts will sell ornaments, cards, jewelry and CDs by local artists

The Heights Arts Holiday Store is back for an 11th year, and executive director Peggy Spaeth believes 2012 marks the best edition yet to hit the organization's Lee Road gallery. "Every year is the best," she said. "There's a lot of things we don't carry year-round. We have more stock, more arts and crafts than we normally do." Though it's considered one of six Heights Arts galleries each year, the organization pushes it as a retail option to promote local shopping for local products. "We want the message to be loud and clear that you should come shop for local art for the holidays," Spaeth said. "It's like blatant commercialism.
