Cleveland Heights Property Taxes Rise in 2013

Here are the numbers that make up your property tax bill this year

Cleveland Heights property taxes will rise by 3 mills this year, according to data provided by The Plain Dealer and Cleveland.com. Homeowners will pay $3,415 for every $100,000 in home value this year, up from $3,321 last year, according to the database. Overall millage stands at 111.5 this year, compared to 108.46 in 2012. The top rates in the state belonged to two neighboring areas — the Shaker Square portion of Cleveland in the Shaker Heights School District and the City of Shaker Heights. Cleveland Heights' rate might have been higher if the school board would have approved the master facilities bond issue last year. CH-UH School Board Discusses Plan C Funding

The board hosted a work session on Monday to discuss how the district could pay for the $206.2 million project.

The Cleveland Heights-University Heights School Board focused on Plan C funding options its work session Monday night. Though Steve Shergalis, director of business services, touted the plan's flexibility, the ability to completely fund it will partly rely on voter approval and private donations. The project, which would renovate and reconfigure schools in the district by 2022, is estimated to cost $206.2 million. Nearly 70 percent of that cost would be paid for by a bond issue the board hopes to put on the November ballot. The measure would ask voters to approve a 5.9-mill, 37-year bond issue that would produce $137.2 million. Residents would pay $15.50 per month per $100,000 of property valuation. UPDATE: Joint Meeting Among Cleveland Heights, University Heights Councils, School Board Set

The joint meeting is set for 7:30 p.m. May 14 at the Cleveland Heights Community Center.

The Cleveland Heights and University Heights city councils and the Cleveland Heights-University Heights School Board will meet at 7:30 p.m. May 14 in the Cleveland Heights Community Center. Mayor Ed Kelley confirmed the time and location Thursday and said the joint meeting is open to the public. Karen Jones, school board president, announced the date was confirmed at Monday's board work session. The councils and board will discuss the proposed facilities master plan for the CH-UH district.
