Here are some eco-friendly ways to celebrate Earth Day any day

Today is Earth Day. Founded in 1970 in the U.S. as a day of education about environmental issues, Earth Day is now a globally celebrated holiday. More than one billion people in 192 countries will observe the 43rd anniversary of Earth Day, according to the Earth Day Network. Although Earth Day is a great reminder to be environmentally conscious, there are plenty of simple ways you can celebrate the earth all year long. Here are just 10 ways you can be eco-friendly long after Earth Day is over: 1. Plant a tree. Planting a tree is perhaps the most common Earth Day activity, but you can plant a tree any day of the year. Trees produce oxygen and help reduce air pollution. Toboggan Chutes Open for Martin Luther King Day

Cleveland Metroparks Chalet will have special hours on holiday

The Chalet Toboggan Chutes will have special hours on Martin Luther King Jr. Day Jan. 21. The chutes, located in the Cleveland Metroparks' Mill Stream Run Reservation in Strongsville, will be open noon to 5 p.m. Regular hours at the chutes are: Daily admission for tobogganing is $10 for adults and $8 for children 11 and under. One-time ride tickets are available for $4. Group discounts during public hours are available. This year, a newly installed lift takes toboggans to the top of the hill so riders no longer have to carry them up. The twin refrigerated ice chutes start with an initial drop of 70 feet, traveling over 700 feet of ice at more than 45 mph.   All riders must wear gloves or mittens. The Chalet Toboggan Chutes will have special hours while kids are off school during winter break: Dec. 23:  Noon to 10:30 p.m. Dec. 24:  Noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 25:  Closed  Dec. 26:  Noon to 10:30 p.m. Dec. 27:  Noon to 10:30 p.m. Dec. 28:  Noon to 10:30 p.m. Dec. 29:  Noon to 10:30 p.m.  Dec. 30:  Noon to 10:30 p.m. Dec. 31:  Noon to 5 p.m. Jan. 1:    Noon to 10:30 p.m. Jan. 2:    Noon to 10:30 p.m. Jan. 3:    Noon to 10:30 p.m. Jan. 4:    Noon to 10:30 p.m. Jan. 5:    Noon to 5 p.m. The chutes this year feature a new lift that carries your toboggan to the top of the hill, so all you have to do is walk up the steps. Dodd Camera holds a series of of photography workshops to get you acquainted with new gear and the world around you.
