Clements Convicted on Weapons Charges After Forest Hill Park Dog Shooting

Charges stemming from incident could put Clements in prison for 24 years

The man accused of chaining a dog to a tree and shooting him in a Cleveland Heights park was convicted on two federal weapons charges today. Ramone "Raymone" Clements, 42, of Cleveland, was charged with being a felon in possession of weapons and ammunition when police searched his home in the investigation of the shooting. He faces up to 19 to 24 years in prison at his sentencing June 13. "The whole thing was pretty amazing," said Robin Stone, who adopted the dog. "Forrest's situation and the shooting in the park was a huge part of the trial," she added. She has previously discussed her dissapointment with the justice for Forrest — that Clements, accused of animal abuse, would go to jail for only six months if convicted of shooting the dog…

Accused Dog Shooter Faces Jury in Federal Court

Trial for Ramone Clements, 42, of Cleveland, began Monday with jury selection.

Jury selection began Monday in the trial of a man accused of chaining a dog to a tree and shooting him in a Cleveland Heights park. Ramone "Raymone" Clements pleaded not guilty to charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon, according to The Plain Dealer. The ammunition charge carries a greater sentence if Clements is convicted than his original animal cruelty charge, which was dropped after his federal indictment. Animal rights activists have balked at the charges, arguing that Clements should face hard time for how he treated Forrest the dog, not because he possessed bullets. Clements, 42, of Cleveland, is not allowed to own guns or ammunitions because he has previous convictions in the Cuyahoga County Court of …

Accused Dog Shooter Faces Another Federal Charge

The man accused of shooting Forrest the dog now faces weapons charges in federal court

A superseding indictment was filed adding an additional charge of being a felon in possession against Raymone “Ramone” Clements -- the man accused of shooting Forrest the dog and leaving him for dead in Clevelad Heights. Clements, 42, of Cleveland, was indicted last month on a charge of being a felon in possession of ammunition. Clements was found to have one round of .357-caliber ammunition and two rounds of .22-caliber ammunition on Dec. 20, 2012, despite previous convictions in the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas for rape in 2006, drug trafficking in 2003 and aggravated robbery in 1991, according to the indictment. A second count has been added, charging that on or about Jan. 17, Clements had possession of a .22-caliber Derringer …

Dog Forrest's New Owner: Clements' Federal Indictment is "Bittersweet"

Robin Stone: If animal cruelty were a felony in Ohio, we wouldn't need the ammunitions charge.

The new owner of a dog that was shot and left for dead in a Cleveland Heights park called news that his alleged shooter faces a federal charge "bittersweet." Ramone Clements was charged in December with shooting the dog, now adopted and named Forrest, in the face and shoulder at Forest Hill Park. During the police investigation, authorities say they found one round of .357-caliber ammunition and two rounds of .22-caliber ammunition in his home. See all stories on the Forest Hill dog shooting.  The ammunition charge carries a greater sentence if Clements is convicted, but the animal cruelty charge, as well as two other firearms charges, were dropped by the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor.
