Cleveland Heights Economic Development Director Resigns

Howard Thompson began with the city in 2010 after working in Beachwood

Cleveland Heights Economic Development Director Howard Thompson has resigned from his position, Cleveland Heights Mayor Ed Kelley said. He added that the city and Council hopes to "re-look at our Planning and Economic Development Department" and ensure that its services are provided to the city's businesses in the most effective and efficient way. "I have every confidence in the world that Howard will land on his feet and I wish him the best in his endeavors," Kelley added. Thompson started with the city in 2010 after working in Beachwood. A Plan For Meadowbrook And Lee Could Be Finalized By Summer

The City of Cleveland Heights hopes to finalize a development agreement by summer and start construction in the fall.

The City of Cleveland Heights sent requests for proposals to developers and architects in November, asking for their ideas for the vacant, grassy space on the corner of Meadowbrook Boulevard and Lee Road. The city received three proposals for the property, and officials have interviewed each developer. They've selected one group they'd like to move forward with, but a development agreement has not been signed. "We’ve selected a market-rate apartment and office retail concept for the project," said Howard Thompson, economic development director for the city, adding that officials are meeting again with the group at the end of April. Is the government helping this development in any way? Is there any incentive, tax abatement, etc? If so, it is better off being undeveloped. NO tax dollars should go to incentivize this space.   more ›

Cleveland Heights Seeks Ideas From Developers for Lee Road Lot

The city has sent a request to architects and developers to come up with ideas for the vacant space near Meadowbrook Boulevard

The city of Cleveland Heights wants ideas. The grassy land on Lee Road and Meadowbrook Boulevard was once home to Ohio Savings Bank, but it was razed and the space has been vacant for about five years, said Howard Thompson, economic development director for Cleveland Heights. Thompson sent a proposal to developers and architects in November and asked them to come up with ideas for the property, and he said he hopes construction on something starts as early as September 2012.
