Seven athletes accept offers from Northwestern, Notre Dame, Marquette and more at National Signing Day
Eight Cleveland Heights High School athletes gave impassioned speeches, thanked God and their coaches — and some wept — as they chose colleges at National Signing Day. The most suspenseful speech was from Shelton Gibson, a standout wide receiver who waited until the ceremony to reveal West Virginia University as his school of choice. Gibson’s career at Heights High is dotted with accolades, including being chosen to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl last month. His speech was short and sweet: he thanked God, his family, his coaches. “I feel extremely blessed, not only because I’m going to college, but because I have options,” he said. Five Cleveland Heights High School athletes announced where they’ll be playing next year at a signing day celebration Wednesday, May 30. Their families sat on stage with them in the Heights High auditorium as they shared their college decisions. “This is by far one of my favorite days to be an athletic director,” said Kristin Hughes. She said as much as she enjoys going to games and watching students grow in high school, “our true success will always be judged on if we can get our kids to play at the next level.” The following students made announcements at the event: The following students also signed letters of intent but did not attend the event:

The senior signing day celebration begins at noon today.
Cleveland Heights High School athletes will sign letters of intent at noon today, May 30 in the auditorium. Students who play football, boys' basketball and soccer and girls' basketball will participate in the senior signing day celebration. Look for highlights from the event soon.

Student-athletes will play sports at the college level

National Honor Society has a celebration yearly as students are inducted into it. Also, there are celebrations of students as they all do wonderful things at Heights. These young men and women have good grades along with being great athletes and community leaders. Don't belittle their moment.
