Kiwi Spoon is All in the Family

New Coventry Road yogurt shop will open soon, offering

Chung Lin came to the U.S. in 1980s with two suitcases and $25 in his pocket. A decade later, he was a successful restaurant proprietor and in the position to help a lifelong friend, Li Zhong Zhuo, make his own name in the business. So he did, taking his friend’s sons into his Tallmadge home and teaching them the business so that they could take their skills back to their father to open his own restaurant in Dayton, Ohio. Now Zhou, who’s added another restaurant and three yogurt shops to his properties, is returning the favor. Lin’s son Mao, guided by Zhuo, is using the name and concept of Zhuo’s Connecticut Kiwi Spoon yogurt shops as a springboard for his own shop, set to open on Coventry Road soon. Mao Lin’s shop is his own — connected …

Piccadilly To Offer Organic and Vegan Yogurt Options on Coventry

New shop, opening in former Grog Shop space, will use repurposed wood from legendary local music venue

If Adrian and Cosmin Bota were going to pursue their dream of opening a yogurt shop, they were going to do it right. To the Romanian-born brothers who spent every Saturday in their teens working alongside local, fresh food vendors at the West Side Market, the right way is organic, local and with an emphasis on Cleveland's revival. And Saturday, the brothers will see their dream come to life. The Bota brothers will open Piccadilly Artisan Yogurt this Saturday on Coventry Road. The shop will offer only organic yogurt, and though the brothers had to go to California to find a dairy that offers it, they eventually hope to partner with a local dairy to have it sourced nearby. Adrian Bota said that the shop will churn the yogurt, mixing it with …

Double Yum: Two New Frozen Yogurt Shops to Grace Coventry

Kiwispoon and Piccadilly have begun setting up shop on opposite ends of Coventry Road

As the weather warms, Cleveland Heights residents should have two new options for cool treats on Coventry Road. Kiwispoon, an Connecticut chain opening its first out-of-state shop, and Piccadilly, a new business run by local two brothers, have hung signs and brown paper over the windows of two shops in the Coventry business district. Kiwispoon is located on the corner of Coventry and Euclid Heights, in the same building as Burgers-n-Beers, above Phoenix Coffee and B-Side Lounge. The business was founded in Wallington, Conn. in 2011 and today has three locations in Connecticut. Piccadilly Artisan Yogurt is a locally owned organic frozen yogurt shop that will open next to Pacific East near the corner of Mayfield Road and Coventry.  We're …

There are some cool little boutique shops on Coventry worth checking out. But in reality, retail is dying a slow death as much of it can be replaced with online shopping. They haven't figured out a way yet to replicate dining on the internet, so I'm guessing that's why these types of establishments seem to dominate bricks-and-mortars shopping centers.   more ›

Home Design and Furnishings Boutique to Move to Cleveland Heights

douHome to relocate from Gordon Square to Fairmount and Taylor

Updated at 4 p.m. Feb. 28, 2013. The Shoppes at Fairmount will soon have a new interior design and home furnishings boutique. duoHome is moving to 3479 Fairmount Blvd. from its current location at Gordon Square in Cleveland, where co-owner Tim Kempf hopes his shop will benefit from the area's similar businesses, namely, Paul Hamlin Interiors and Paysage. "We really do think that once we move to that block, that, in essence, it will create a dedicated retail district for the Greater Cleveland area." Kempf and his business partner Scott Suskowicz opened duoHome on W. 65th nearly six years ago after working together at Beachwood's Ohio Design Center. Today, the Gordon Square district has more fashion retail than businesses like duoHome. But, …

New Gelato And Pizza Shop Will Open Soon in Former La Gelateria Space

Vero Bistro wants to bring Italian favorites back to the Cedar Fairmount Business District — with a new twist.

A popular pizza and gelato shop that closed last year will soon be replaced by a, well, pizza and gelato shop.  The owner, Cleveland Heights resident Marc-Auréle Buholzer, worked for La Gelateria in the Cedar Fairmount Business District off and on for many years. The experience inspired him to create his own store, and he plans to open sometime this month. “The community loved this place,” he said. But he says he'll offer something a little different. The restaurant, Vero, which means true or real in Italian, will stay open year-round, all the time. Buholzer, 28, is redecorating the interior to look more like a café or bistro and adding more tables. He covered the light blue walls with olive and rust tones. He’ll also serve a specific type…
