Cleveland Independents Restaurant Week starts Monday at tasty spots all over Cleveland Heights and Northeast Ohio
Dozens of restaurants all over the area will offer $33 prix fixe dinners beginning Monday for Cleveland Independents Restaurant Week. Seven Cleveland Heights restaurants, including Melt, Taste and Marotta's, will offer the three-course prix fixe meals March 4 to 16: Click here to see each restaurants' prix fixe menus or to make reservations. The week begins on the tail end of Downtown Cleveland's Restaurant Week, which ends Sunday.

Downtown Cleveland's Restaurant Week starts this weekend with $30 prix fixe dinners, $15 lunch specials and pierogis at over 40 restaurants. This year is the first time the specials, at places like Lola, Morton's, The Greenhouse and more, have extended through two weekends — Feb. 22 to March 3. Some parking will be available for $2 after 5 p.m., and customers can enter for a chance to win downtown dining for a year. City Council approves $50,000 Economic Development Loan for second location of Solon restaurant
The space formerly occupied by Jimmy O'Neill's Tavern on Lee Road will be filled with pasta and pizza by spring, Cleveland Heights Mayor Ed Kelley said at Monday's council meeting. Joey's Italian Restaurant, located in Solon, secured a $50,000 loan from the city's Economic Development Loan Fund Program for kitchen supplies when council approved the resolution Monday. The restaurant opened in Chagrin Falls in 1981 but was destroyed in a fire in November 2011. It reopened in Solon nine months later. Kelley said that he has been pursuing the owners of Joey's since the fire destroyed the Chagrin Falls location. Now, he said that Joey's will open at the 4,000-square-foot space 2195 Lee Road, which has been vacant for 18 months. The city …

Friends often marvel at how well my 2½-year-old daughter eats. She likes vegetables — especially carrots, cucumbers and green beans — hummus, black beans and rice and almost any kind of fruit. She loves skim milk and won’t drink sugary juices. Perhaps her tastes are innate, but we also work hard to foster healthy eating. We cook balanced meals at home and shun fast food. We do like to go out occasionally, but we’re picky about where we go. Too many restaurants offer only the cliché (and unhealthy) kids’ meals: chicken fingers, hot dogs, hamburgers, French fries and macaroni and cheese. When did these become acceptable choices for kids? My daughter has never had a hot dog. She’s eaten chicken fingers once or twice — and didn’t like them — …
