Simply Charming Coming Back to Cedar Lee

The greeting card, handbag, candle and jewelry shop will open soon in its former home with new items for men, babies, kids and pets.

Simply Charming is coming back to the Cedar Lee Business District. Elisabeth Gevelber closed her store in 2009 when she thought she was going to move to Arizona. She ended up staying in town and two years later, relocated to Warrensville Center Road in University Heights. “I thought, the space is available and it had free parking and it gets a lot of traffic, but that never happened,” said Gevelber, who opened the store in September and closed it June 9. Loyal customers from Cedar Lee came to the greeting card, jewelry, handbag and candle shop, but it was difficult to attract new customers. So Gevelber decided to move back home. “These were my old stomping grounds. We’d always spend Saturday with grandma,” said Gevelber, recalling memories…

Countdown to the Spelling Bee, Day 5: Can You Spell This Word?

Reaching Heights Spelling Bee reader Nancy Levin will appear in videos reading a word out loud each day leading up to the bee. Can you spell them correctly?

This is the fifth word featured in the series, Countdown to the Spelling Bee: Can You Spell This Word?  The 21st Annual Reaching Heights Adult Community Spelling Bee is less than a week away. Each day leading up to the event, which begins at 7 p.m. March 28 in the Heights High auditorium, Cleveland Heights Patch will feature a video of Heights Libraries Director and bee reader Nancy Levin reading one word selected by Reaching Heights. Some words are from past bees, and others will be read at the 2012 event. And of course, Levin will use each in a sentence. Play the video above for today's word and try to spell it correctly below! Cedar Lee Merchants Collecting Goods For Heights Emergency Food Center, Offering Incentives

The business district is encouraging people to get into the spirit of giving with promotions throughout the food drive

Merchants in the Cedar Lee Business District are collecting non-perishable food items today through Dec. 12 to benefit the Heights Emergency Food Center. And several businesses are offering incentives to get people into the spirit of giving: Dec. 5: Phoenix Coffee will give a poinsettia to the first 30 people who donate four non-perishable food items Dec. 6: The Tavern Company will give the first 20 people who donate five non-perishable food items a jar of locally produced, BLAZE salsa Dec. 7: Revive Fair Trade Boutique will give customers who donate five  non-perishable food items a 10 percent discount on their purchase Dec. 9: Parnell's Pub will give the first three people to donate 10 non-perishables a 2012 edition the Cleveland …

Salon owner says his clients leave as friends

Shawn Paul Gustafson only has two styling chairs in his new salon on Lee Road. He purposely kept it small, as he likes to work with one client at a time. “I love that when there is a client in here, I’m focusing on them and not rushing to get to my next. It’s very private,” said Gustafson of his month-old business, Shawn Paul Salon. His goal was to create an intimate, quaint, home-like environment. More boutique than runway, more comfortable than pretentious. “I wanted it to be romantic in here. For some people, it’s the only time they get touched,” he said.
