Cheap Date: 'The Living Nickelodeon'

See a movie, the way people did more than 100 years ago, Saturday at the Cleveland Cinematheque.

Check back every Friday for Cheap Date: one weekend event or activity that won't break the bank. The Cleveland Cinematheque is taking a step back in time this weekend. Before CGI and 3-D and well, sound and color, live music, sing-alongs and colorful slides accompanied silent films. Rick Altman has recreated the more than 100-year-old theaters, called "nickelodeons," with his movie and performance, The Living Nickelodeon. The University of Iowa cinema and comparative literature professor is presenting his work at the Cinematheque at 7 p.m. Saturday. Those movies back in the late 1800s and early 1900s were just a nickel. Saturday's show isn't quite as cheap, but it's not bad for a movie, live entertainment and a trip back in time. Where: …
