Cleveland Heights, Shaker Students Among Finalists in High School Rock Off

Lack of Focus, a group of students from Cleveland Heights and neighboring communities, is one of 18 acts to perform Saturday at the High School Rock Off at the House of Blues

It's already "Final Exam" time for a few students at area schools. Lack of Focus, a group comprised of students from Cleveland Heights High School, Shaker Heights High School and Hawken, is among those performing Saturday at the 2013 Tri-C High School Rock Off Final Exam. The 17th edition of the annual event begins at 4 p.m. downtown at House of Blues. The Rock Off schedule shows that Lack of Focus will perform at 9:10 p.m. The winners will be announced at 10:55 p.m. following all performances. Lack of Focus is one of 18 bands to make the Final Exam competition. The Rock Off began about a month ago with 63 bands of various genres. Lack of Focus Moves to Final Round of Rock Off

The Cleveland Heights High, Shaker Heights High and Hawken School band will perform in the 16th Annual Tri-C High School Rock Off Final Exam Feb. 11

Lack of Focus just became a band a month ago. The members hadn’t performed live together. But they tried out for the Tri-C High School Rock Off anyway, and snagged a spot in the final round. They were one of 66 high school bands that made it out of 80 applicants, said Frank Imhoff of Live Nation. The band performed Friday night at the House of Blues during round three of the 16th annual event Feb. 11. Cleveland Heights High School student Giles Vondoom was confident they’d move past the first round to the final, known as the "Final Exam,” before he and the band played. “I may feel nervous, but I don’t feel intimated. I feel as a band we’re phenomenal and we have the potential to win it, if not this year, next year,” said 16-year-old Giles…
