Updated: Severe Thunderstorm Watch Until Midnight

The National Weather Service says to stay inside and move away from windows

UPDATE 9:15 p.m. The National Weather Service has lifted a severe thunderstorm warning, but a severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until midnight tonight for 18 counties, including Cuyahoga. --- UPDATE 7:20 p.m. The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for several areas of Cuyahoga County, including Cleveland Heights, until 7:45 tonight.  According to the NWS Cleveland website, "This is a dangerous storm. Seek shelter inside now and stay away from windows."  The storm could bring hail as large as golf balls and winds of up to 60 mph.  There is also a tornado warning in effect for areas of Southwestern Cuyahoga County, Eastern Lorain County and Northern Medina County.  ---- Thank goodness the sun came out this…

Nearly a Foot of Snow Possible

After brief winter reprieve, heavy snow to return to area

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for much of northern Ohio, calling for up to a foot of snow in some areas. The warning will be in effect from 9 tonight through 4 p.m Friday. According to the weather service, a strong low-pressure system will move from Cincinnati toward Youngstown tonight, with rain, sleet and eventually snow and heavy winds. The heaviest accumulation is expected between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. Friday.  By Friday afternoon, we're expected to see snow accumulation of six to 10 inches, with some areas getting up to a foot. Winds are expected to pick up Friday, with gusts expected up to 35 mph. Check back for updates as the storm progresses.
