McNulty's Moves Out, Burgers-N-Beer To Move In

Council approved a loan to help Burgers-N-Beer establish a restaurant on Coventry Road.

A new restaurant will soon move into the space formerly occupied by McNulty's Pub on Coventry Road. City Council approved a $60,000 loan to help Burgers-N-Beer establish a store at 1854 Coventry, and Mayor Ed Kelley said the business could open as early as July or August. Burgers-N-Beer, which also has a restaurant in Willoughby, will bring 11 full-time jobs and 10 part-time jobs. At least 51 percent of the full-time equivalent positions must be dedicated for people with low to moderate incomes, according to council documents. The menu includes sandwiches, salads, sweet potato fries, wings, ribs and of course, burgers. According to its website, the restaurant opened in 1999. Cleveland Heights Lands "Best Of Cleveland" Nods in Scene

Cedar Lee Theatre and Coventry Village honored in the magazine's "Best of Cleveland" feature

Cedar Lee Theatre and Coventry Village received nods in Scene Magazine's "Best of Cleveland 2012" feature. Cedar Lee Theatre was crowned "best movie theatre" and Coventry Village was named "best reason to visit the east side." "Still a haven for offbeat merchants and quirky shops, (Coventry) has cultivated a fantastic blend of homegrown and outside enterprises in recent years," Scene wrote. "The result is a district teeming with energy day and night, drawing crowds that span the circle of life." And the Cedar Lee, "is often the only place in town where you can see the year's best indie movies." To read the full article and see the list of winners, click here.

Big Dog Celebrates a Year in Coventry

The comedy venue has booked seven performances for its anniversary show this Saturday night

Such as when the air conditioning broke down during a particularly hot day in May, and no one would come out and fix it on a Saturday. He had booked sketch comedy group Last Call Cleveland for that night, and it was more than 90 degrees in the 93-year-old theater, which sits on the corner of Euclid Heights Boulevard and Coventry Road. “It was one of the best and worst days of the theater,” Mitri said. Mitri offered to cancel the show, but Last Call Cleveland insisted on performing that night. “No, let’s do it. We’re excited to do it,” they had said. But then the audience walked in. “You looked at people and they were red because they were so hot,” …
