Council approved a loan to help Burgers-N-Beer establish a restaurant on Coventry Road.
A new restaurant will soon move into the space formerly occupied by McNulty's Pub on Coventry Road. City Council approved a $60,000 loan to help Burgers-N-Beer establish a store at 1854 Coventry, and Mayor Ed Kelley said the business could open as early as July or August. Burgers-N-Beer, which also has a restaurant in Willoughby, will bring 11 full-time jobs and 10 part-time jobs. At least 51 percent of the full-time equivalent positions must be dedicated for people with low to moderate incomes, according to council documents. The menu includes sandwiches, salads, sweet potato fries, wings, ribs and of course, burgers. According to its website, the restaurant opened in 1999. The money comes from the city's Commercial Revolving Loan Fund …

Cedar Lee Theatre and Coventry Village honored in the magazine's "Best of Cleveland" feature
Cedar Lee Theatre and Coventry Village received nods in Scene Magazine's "Best of Cleveland 2012" feature. Cedar Lee Theatre was crowned "best movie theatre" and Coventry Village was named "best reason to visit the east side." "Still a haven for offbeat merchants and quirky shops, (Coventry) has cultivated a fantastic blend of homegrown and outside enterprises in recent years," Scene wrote. "The result is a district teeming with energy day and night, drawing crowds that span the circle of life." And the Cedar Lee, "is often the only place in town where you can see the year's best indie movies." To read the full article and see the list of winners, click here.

The comedy venue has booked seven performances for its anniversary show this Saturday night
Since opening a year ago, a few moments stick out in Big Dog Theater owner Don Mitri’s mind. Such as when the air conditioning broke down during a particularly hot day in May, and no one would come out and fix it on a Saturday. He had booked sketch comedy group Last Call Cleveland for that night, and it was more than 90 degrees in the 93-year-old theater, which sits on the corner of Euclid Heights Boulevard and Coventry Road. “It was one of the best and worst days of the theater,” Mitri said. Mitri offered to cancel the show, but Last Call Cleveland insisted on performing that night. “No, let’s do it. We’re excited to do it,” they had said. But then the audience walked in. “You looked at people and they were red because they were so hot,” …

Congrats to Brendon, who entered our raffle and was the winner of a $25 gift card to Phoenix. Thank you again to everyone who battled the snow and rain to say hello. And a special thank you to Phoenix for hosting our event.

Join us as we mark our first birthday. Did we mention free coffee?
Northeast Ohio's Patch web sites are 1 year old. It was the closing weeks of 2010 when all of our 17 community-based news, opinion and information sites got up and running. We’re excited to mark this very important milestone, and we’d like to invite the community to share in our celebration. We’ve partnered with Phoenix Coffee, 1854 Coventry Road, to bring you a special treat: a free cup of coffee for the first 100 people to stop in from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 27. There are other treats in store, too: everyone will have a chance to win Patch prizes. One lucky friend will win a giveaway to one of our most-favorite shops in town. So bring your friends and stop by to say hello. We’ll be the ones in Patch green, live-tweeting and …

The documentary follows participants in The Race Across America
The Cleveland Heights Bicycle Coalition and Cleveland Bikes are co-hosting a screening of Bicycle Dreams at Big Dog Theater in the former Centrum Theater at 7 p.m. Thursday. The event is sponsored by HubBub Custom Bicycles, and proceeds from the event will benefit both local biking organizations. The Friends of Coventry Village Facebook page posted this note from Tommy's owner Tommy Fello about the Cleveland Heights restaurant's 40th anniversary: Would like to take a minute of your time to say THANK YOU to all my loyal customers and employees. This Saturday 1-14-12, we will celebrate Tommy's 40th year anniversary. You have supported Tommy's through its relocations, fiires, electric outages, in good times and troubled times. We have grown in many ways together. You have allowed me to enjoy 40 years of an amazing life doing what I love to do, serving and working with all of you. I especially would like to thank my mom and dad for their encouragement at age 19 to "give it a try." My sister Anita and brother Tim for thier continued …
