Last Chance: Register For The Cleveland Heights Egg Hunt

The city's Annual Spring Egg Hunt is set for Saturday, and the registration deadline is Friday

The Cleveland Heights Annual Spring Egg Hunt is set for 11 a.m. Saturday, March 31 in the Forest Hill Park meadow.  The egg hunt is open to children who are 1 to 9 years old. It's your last chance to register — the deadline is Friday. The event is free, but the city asks families to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the Heights Emergency Food Center. The city recommends that children wear old clothes and boots in case of wet weather or muddy grass, and the event is "BYOB" — bring your own basket. Call 216-691-7373 to register and to confirm the location if the weather is severe Saturday. It may be moved to the tennis courts in the park or inside the Community Center. Cedar Lee Merchants Collecting Goods For Heights Emergency Food Center, Offering Incentives

The business district is encouraging people to get into the spirit of giving with promotions throughout the food drive

Merchants in the Cedar Lee Business District are collecting non-perishable food items today through Dec. 12 to benefit the Heights Emergency Food Center. And several businesses are offering incentives to get people into the spirit of giving: Dec. 5: Phoenix Coffee will give a poinsettia to the first 30 people who donate four non-perishable food items Dec. 6: The Tavern Company will give the first 20 people who donate five non-perishable food items a jar of locally produced, BLAZE salsa Dec. 7: Revive Fair Trade Boutique will give customers who donate five  non-perishable food items a 10 percent discount on their purchase Dec. 9: Parnell's Pub will give the first three people to donate 10 non-perishables a 2012 edition the Cleveland …

Improv Comedy Show to Benefit Local Hunger Relief Organizations Scheduled for Saturday

Big Dog Theater will host the event

A group of women from Cleveland will put on a comedy act Saturday night without scripts or notes to benefit local hunger relief organizations.  The Angry Ladies of Improv improvisational comedy troupe will perform at Big Dog Theater, 2781 Euclid Heights Blvd., at 8 p.m. Saturday in the benefit show "A Greater Cleveland." Proceeds from the $12 tickets will go toward supporting the Heights Emergency Food Center and Trinity Lakewood Community Outreach. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and people can purchase tickets at the door or in advance at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/180511. Big Dog's house short-form improv group, Thunderlips and the Submissives and Cleveland-based standup comedian Maria Borgio will also be there that evening.

Disciples Christian Church Hosts Free Community Meal

The church also plays host to a fundraiser for the Heights Emergency Food Center

Once a month, Disciples Christian Church treats the public to a free home-cooked meal, friendly conversation and, upon request, prayer or counseling. The church at 3663 Mayfield Road, formerly known as Euclid Avenue Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), began hosting its “Meet the Neighbors” community meal in August 2008.  “As the meal has grown, the meal has become a community event,” said the Rev. Kristine Eggert, Disciples Christian pastor since February 2007. “Very few people come and eat and leave.  Most persons stay, and the conversations are lively.
